Vocabulary that is necessary for an expert may be confusing for a general reader. A single readability target cannot serve every purpose.

Use metrics to find questions—not to replace editorial judgment
Counts, timing estimates, repeated words and readability scores can reveal patterns in a draft. They cannot decide whether an argument is accurate, appropriate for its audience or persuasive.
Review meaning before optimising a score
Start by identifying the reader and the action they need to take. Use the Text Analyser to find dense sentences, unexpected length and repetition, then revise in context and read the finished text aloud.
Treat timing as an estimate
Speaking pace changes with emphasis, pauses, demonstrations and audience response. Rehearsal is more reliable than a word-count estimate.
Protect sensitive drafts
Processing is local, but device access still matters. Avoid leaving confidential text in a shared browser, clipboard or document history.
Before relying on a result
- State the reader and purpose.
- Check headings and first sentences for a clear path.
- Review repeated terms in context.
- Read important copy aloud before publishing.
