Practical kitchen calculations

Scale quantities without hiding the assumptions

Utilaroo keeps the serving factor, regional convention and ingredient-dependent estimates visible, so you can decide when a result needs a practical kitchen check.

01

Respect regional units

An Australian tablespoon is 20 mL, while common US and metric tablespoons are about 15 mL.

02

Treat weights as estimates

Cups-to-grams results depend on the ingredient, preparation and how firmly it is packed.

03

Check cooking time

Scaling ingredients or pan area does not automatically scale cooking time, temperature or food-safety requirements.

Questions answered

Recipe scaler FAQ

Does Utilaroo upload or save my recipe?

No. Recipe text is parsed and calculated locally in your browser. The tool does not send your recipe to Utilaroo.

Why are Australian tablespoons different?

An Australian tablespoon is 20 mL. A US tablespoon is approximately 14.79 mL, while a common metric tablespoon is 15 mL. Select the source convention before converting.

Are cups-to-grams conversions exact?

No. They are ingredient-dependent estimates based on reference weights. Moisture, preparation, scooping and packing can change the actual weight.

Should I scale cooking time and temperature?

Not automatically. Pan geometry, food depth, appliance performance and safety requirements can change the time needed. Use the result for quantities and check doneness separately.
