Editorial standards for useful, checkable tools
Utilaroo aims to help a person complete a real task and understand the result. This page explains the minimum standard applied to calculations, explanatory content, sources and corrections.
People and purpose first
We select tools for a defined practical task—not simply because a phrase receives searches. A page should leave a user with a completed calculation, a clearer understanding of the method and enough context to recognise when the result is unsuitable.
Original explanation
Every tool must explain its inputs, calculation basis, assumptions, limitations, a worked example and common mistakes in language written for that specific task. Shared navigation and visual patterns may remain consistent, but explanatory copy should not be duplicated merely to fill a template.
Sources and currency
Where a tool touches changing laws, standards, tariffs, product ratings or official definitions, we prefer primary sources such as government agencies, standards bodies and original platform documentation. A source link provides context; it does not transfer responsibility for Utilaroo’s own calculations. User-entered rates are preferred when a default would quickly become stale or differ by location.
High-impact subjects
Financial, home-energy, construction and other consequential tools receive stronger limitations and scenario guidance. They provide numerical estimates only and do not predict approvals, rank products, recommend providers or replace licensed or qualified advice.
Privacy and advertising
Calculations and supported file processing run in the browser whenever practical. Advertising must remain visually and functionally separate from tool inputs, results, warnings and editorial conclusions. Commercial relationships must not change a formula, ranking or result.
Review and correction
Material changes require calculation tests and a content review. Tool pages display an editorial review date. Readers can report a suspected error through the corrections process; confirmed material errors are corrected promptly and the affected review date is updated.
